The catalyst carrier, also known as the support, is one of the components of the supported catalyst. It is the skeleton of the active components of the catalyst, supports the active components, enables the active components to be dispersed, and can also increase the strength of the catalyst. However, the carrier itself generally does not have catalytic activity. Commonly used are ceramics, alumina, activated carbon and so on.
1. Activated Carbon
The main reasons for using activated carbon as the catalyst carrier are: (1) Activated carbon has a rich pore structure and a large specific surface area. (2) The surface chemistry is easy to control. (3) Conducive to the reduction of the metal phase. (4) It has excellent resistance to acid and alkali. (5) Activated carbon can be prepared in different shapes, such as granular, honeycomb, etc. (6) Activated carbon is easy to recycle. (7) The use cost is relatively low.
The disadvantage of activated carbon is that it is not resistant to high temperatures and cannot be used in a large amount of exothermic reactions or in high temperature environments. Therefore, the ozone destruction catalyst with activated carbon as the carrier generally treats a lower concentration of ozone at room temperature. Once the ozone concentration is too high, the catalytic reaction will generate a lot of heat and cause danger.
3. Activated Alumina
Alumina has a large specific surface area, high temperature resistance, chemical resistance and high mechanical strength. Alumina has a rich pore structure, which allows the active components of the catalyst to be dispersed into the carrier, and improves the thermal stability and anti-toxicity of the catalyst.
4. Aluminum Honeycomb Panel
The characteristics of the metal aluminum honeycomb are: 1. Small density, lighter weight under the same volume; 2. Good seismic performance and high flatness; 3. High strength and high rigidity; 4. Low air resistance. Due to its light, beautiful, and flat characteristics, the ozone destruction catalyst with aluminum honeycomb panels as a carrier is more suitable for air purifiers, fresh air systems, and other environments with relatively low ozone concentration.
